Readr for Reddit (often distributed under the extension name readReddit) is a specialized Google Chrome extension that strips away Reddit’s heavy, cluttered layout and transforms long text posts and comment sections into a minimalist, distraction-free reading overlay. Core Features
Clutter Elimination: It hides ads, sidebar widgets, profile badges, and unnecessary voting buttons so you can focus entirely on the text.
Smart Continuity: If an author runs out of space in their main post and continues their story down in the replies, the extension automatically threads and stitches those author comments into the primary text view.
Universal Compatibility: It works seamlessly across both Old Reddit and modern Reddit designs.
Visual Customization: You can adjust the font size, font family, text container width, and toggle between clean light and dark themes. How to Use the Extension 1. Installation
Open your browser and navigate to the readReddit Chrome Web Store page.
Click Add to Chrome to install the extension. No sign-ups or account registrations are required. 2. Activating the Reading View
Once installed, navigate to any Reddit thread (such as r/WritingPrompts or r/HFY). You can trigger the clean interface using three native methods:
For Text Posts: Click the dedicated floating action button that appears in the bottom-right corner of your screen to open the main post in the overlay.
For Entire Comment Sections: Hover over the same bottom-right floating button and choose the comments option to format the top-level discussion.
For Individual Comments: Look closely at individual comment blocks. The extension appends a direct “read” link next to the standard reply actions, letting you open just that specific response in the clean interface. 3. Adjusting Layout and Exiting
Customize: Use the gear icon inside the overlay panel to tweak line spacing, background themes, and font widths to suit your reading comfort.
Close: Simply hit the ESC key or click outside the text card overlay to close the clean view and return instantly to the standard Reddit interface.
